Thanksgiving Day killer thought victim was pulling on car doors in the neighborhood, prosecutors say – CWB Chicago

A suburban man has been charged with first-degree homicide within the deadly Thanksgiving Day slaying of a person in Garfield Ridge, a killing prosecutors say stemmed from suspicions that the sufferer was pulling on automotive doorways within the neighborhood.

Chicago police had been dispatched to the 5100 block of South Luna Avenue shortly after midnight on November 27 after somebody discovered Paul Kalec, 27, mendacity unresponsive on the street. He was transported to Stroger Hospital, the place he was pronounced useless from a number of gunshot wounds.

A witness instructed investigators {that a} man approached Kalec on foot, pulled out a handgun, and fired repeatedly earlier than fleeing the scene, police stated. That weapon was later decided to be the gun used to kill Kalec and investigators linked it to Negron, a CPD report stated.

Within the hours after the taking pictures, CPD stated detectives had been questioning a “particular person of curiosity,” however no fees had been introduced on the time.

This week, Choose Deidre Dyer ordered 31-year-old Richard Negron detained within the case on a cost of first-degree homicide.

In accordance with Dyer’s detention order, prosecutors stated Negron was captured on video and recognized by a witness as the one that confronted and shot Kalec. Prosecutors stated Negron believed Kalec was pulling on door handles of parked automobiles within the neighborhood, meaning to steal issues.

Negron shot Kalec 9 occasions, even after he fell to the bottom, Dyer stated in her detention order, noting that police discovered no stolen gadgets in Kalec’s possession and including that Kalec was not armed. She known as Negron’s response to his suspicions about Kalec “grossly disproportionate.”
