UN condemns M23 violence against human rights defenders in DRC


UN human rights consultants on Thursday condemned acts of “excessive violence” dedicated by the M23 (Motion du 23 Mars) armed group towards human rights defenders within the North and South Kivu provinces within the jap Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), warning that activists documenting abuses face escalating reprisals.

In accordance with the Workplace of the UN Excessive Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), M23 members have allegedly carried out focused killings, abductions, torture, sexual violence, and dying threats towards rights defenders between November 2025 and February 2026.
