The MoJ has simply (16 October 2025) revealed a course of analysis of early supply of the the Fast Deployment Cells (RDC) Programme. RDCs are modular, self-contained models with a 15-year lifespan positioned in present Class C, Class D and girls’s property jail grounds and designed for low-risk prisoners.
Whereas the method of constructing a brand new jail often takes years with a lot of that point taken up by the planning course of, RDCs present a faster means of the Authorities tackling the jail overcrowding disaster.
RDCs usually go on present jail grounds, utilising small parcels of land which are unsuitable for bigger houseblocks. These single and double storey models are designed to “present respectable lodging, incentivise good behaviour and put together prisoners for resettlement“.
