A residents’ panel made up of a consultant pattern of 15 members of the general public has concluded that the present sentencing system in England and Wales is “advanced, bureaucratic, and unfit for the urgent wants of society,” in response to a report launched yesterday (7 April 2025).
The panel was commissioned by the Jail Reform Belief and arrange, facilitated and reported on by the specialist social analysis company Hopkins Van Mil (HVM).
The panel was timed to offer perception for the federal government’s unbiased assessment of sentencing, chaired by former justice secretary David Gauke, whose ultimate report is anticipated to the revealed subsequent month.
Though a public dialogue and numerous polls and surveys have been undertaken on public consciousness of sentencing, that is the primary deliberative train to discover public attitudes on efficient sentencing in England and Wales.
