Justice Surya Kant was on Thursday appointed because the 53rd Chief Justice of India and can assume cost on November 24. The Division of Justice within the Union Legislation Ministry issued a notification asserting his appointment.
Justice Surya Kant succeeds Justice Bhushan R Gavai, who demits workplace on November 23. He would be the CJI for practically 15 months and demit workplace on February 9, 2027 on attaining the age of 65 years.
“In train of the powers conferred by the Structure of India, the President is happy to nominate Shri Justice Surya Kant, Choose of the Supreme Courtroom of India because the Chief Justice of India with impact from twenty fourth November, 2025,” Legislation Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal stated in a publish on X.
