In A Landmark Modernisation Drive Indian Army Orders 4.25 Lakh CQB Carbines From Private Companies, Delivery In Two Years


The Indian Military is poised to induct Shut Quarter Battle (CQB) carbines ranging from 2026, following the finalisation of a landmark procurement contract, in a deal price roughly ₹27,770 Crores.

This vital acquisition entails the acquisition of 4.25 lakh CQB carbines, meant to exchange and modernise small arms inside infantry models throughout the pressure.

The contract was signed final month as a part of a fast-track modernisation drive, with the defence companies tasked with a stringent supply timeline. Lieutenant Common Ajay Kumar, Director Common of Infantry, said that the businesses are required to provide the whole consignment inside two years, underscoring the urgency of the endeavour.

Beneath the settlement, Bharat Forge—a subsidiary of Kalyani Strategic Methods—will provide 60 per cent of the order, amounting to 2,55,000 rifles. In the meantime, PLR Methods, a three way partnership between the Adani Group and Israel Weapon Industries (IWI), will present the remaining 40 per cent, equating to 1,70,000 models.

The newly procured carbines shall be standardised to fireside the 5.56×45mm calibre, matching up to date infantry necessities. This transfer is an important step in India’s ongoing push for Atmanirbharta (self-reliance) in defence, mixing indigenous manufacturing functionality with strategic worldwide partnerships.

Lt Gen Kumar burdened the broader strategic imaginative and prescient behind the acquisition, asserting, “Wars are usually not fought with borrowed weapons.” He highlighted that the Infantry stays the spearhead of the Indian Military and emphasised the “Decade of Transformation” initiative, which seeks to modernise the pressure by self-reliance and enhanced human useful resource excellence.

He elaborated that the Infantry of the long run shall be technologically superior, modular, and versatile. The modernised infantry shall be able to working efficiently throughout multi-domain environments, adapting to the more and more advanced nature of contemporary warfare.

Drawing from classes learnt throughout Operation Sindoor, Lt Gen Kumar identified the essential significance of precision, joint operations, and technology-driven fight. He additional emphasised the long run integration of enhanced Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities to assist operational effectiveness.

Total, this procurement displays a decisive shift towards consolidating India’s defence manufacturing capacities, modernising infantry weaponry, and advancing the Military’s operational edge by cutting-edge know-how and strategic partnerships. The supply schedule aligns with the federal government’s imaginative and prescient of quickly upgrading defence forces to fulfill rising safety challenges.
