ICYMI: BIS Initiates 232 Investigations of UAS and Polysilicon Imports | Customs & International Trade Law Blog


On July 15, 2025, the Bureau of Business and Safety introduced Part 232 Nationwide Safety Investigations of: (i) Unmanned Plane Programs (UAS) and their components/elements, and (ii) polysilicon and associated derivatives.

The Federal register notices can be found right here (UAS) and right here (polysilicon).

BIS is particularly within the following data:

The present and projected demand for these merchandise and the extent to which home manufacturing can meet this demand
The function of overseas provide chains, significantly of main exporters, in assembly United States demand 
The focus of U.S. imports from a small variety of suppliers and the related dangers
The affect of overseas authorities subsidies and predatory commerce practices 
The financial affect of artificially suppressed costs because of overseas unfair commerce practices and state-sponsored overproduction
The potential for export restrictions by overseas nations
The feasibility of accelerating home capability to cut back import reliance
The affect of present commerce insurance policies on home manufacturing and whether or not further measures, together with tariffs or quotas, are needed to guard nationwide safety

The deadline to submit feedback is August 6, 2025.

The investigations might end in new commerce restrictions, together with tariffs. For those who import merchandise coated beneath these investigations, make your voice heard by submitting a remark.
