Charges filed in 'savage and random' stabbing on CTA platform


A 65-year-old girl faces felony fees after prosecutors stated she randomly stabbed a person on a CTA Brown Line practice platform in River North over the weekend.

Althea Knight is charged with two counts of aggravated battery in reference to the incident, which occurred round 9:20 p.m. Friday, July 5, on the Chicago-Franklin Brown Line station, 300 W. Chicago Avenue.

In keeping with a detention petition, the assault occurred because the sufferer and a companion had been getting back from a film and making ready to exit the practice. Because the companion stepped off first, the sufferer gestured to Knight to exit forward of him. Knight didn’t reply, so the person proceeded towards the door. That’s when, prosecutors say, Knight approached from behind and started stabbing him within the again.

The companion tried to defend the sufferer by elevating an arm and creating distance between them and Knight, who then fled the scene.

Responding officers situated Knight inside the primary automotive of the identical practice and recovered two knives close to her waistband, in response to prosecutors. The sufferer was handled at Northwestern Memorial Hospital for 2 lacerations to the again of his proper shoulder.

Choose James Murphy III ordered Knight held in custody, describing the incident as a “savage and random assault” carried out “for no purpose.”
