Chhattisgarh High Court disposes of United Christian Council plea – India Legal


The Chhattisgarh Excessive Courtroom not too long ago disposed of a petition filed by the United Christian Council, directing the District Justice of the Peace, Durg to think about and resolve on the representations made by the petitioner. 

The petitioner had sought aid towards sure oral directions allegedly issued by the administration, proscribing the entry of non-Christian individuals in church buildings and prayer assembly halls in Durg District.

The petitioner, a registered group, submitted that the administration had been issuing oral directions to its officers, which included restrictions on the entry of non-Christian individuals in church buildings and prayer assembly halls, limitations on prayer conferences in present church buildings and prayer halls constructed on non-public land, and restrictions on prayer conferences in rented church and prayer assembly halls. 

The petitioner additionally alleged that the administration had been asking Christian minority establishments to take care of data of individuals attending and visiting church buildings and prayer assembly halls.

The Excessive Courtroom, comprising Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Amitendra Kishore Prasad, noticed that the District Justice of the Peace, Durg had not selected the representations made by the petitioner regardless of receiving them on April 8, 2024, and August 5, 2024. 

The court docket directed the District Justice of the Peace to think about and resolve on the representations made by the petitioner inside a interval of 4 weeks from the date of receipt of the court docket’s order.
