Israel moves to strengthen defense production amid boycott calls



JERUSALEM — Israel has reached an settlement with Elbit Methods on an NIS 815 million — roughly $215 million in U.S. forex — contract to produce the nation’s army with 120mm “Iron Sting” mortars, the Israeli Ministry of Protection and Elbit Methods introduced Monday.

The mortar munitions are already in use by the IDF’s floor forces within the ongoing “Iron Swords” battle in Gaza and alongside its northern border in opposition to the militant teams Hamas and Hezbollah, respectively.

Israel’s settlement with the Haifa-based Elbit Methods comes as a part of a push to strengthen manufacturing independence, the Israeli Ministry of Protection famous.

Incentivizing this effort are public calls to boycott the sale of ammunition and ammunition components to Israel because of its battle in Gaza. The brand new contract additionally follows a delay of ammunition shipments to Israel from the U.S. coinciding with Israel’s entry into Rafah.
