Romania probes two suspects over alleged hitman-for-hire website



Two Romanian nationals are underneath investigation after authorities uncovered a web site suspected of permitting customers to rent contract killers, in line with native legislation enforcement.

Earlier this month, Romanian police carried out three searches in Bucharest and the central metropolis of Ramnicu Valcea on the request of British authorities, prosecutors stated in a press release on Friday. Investigators consider the suspects had been working a web-based platform that allowed customers to rent assassins via a market designed to hide each identities and monetary transactions.

Authorities stated the platform relied solely on cryptocurrency funds and held customers’ funds inside the website till transactions had been accomplished. The setup was supposed to protect anonymity whereas earning money flows tough to hint.

Through the searches, investigators seized a number of digital storage gadgets, cryptocurrency value about $650,000, in addition to practically 293,000 lei ($68,000) and 48,600 euros ($58,000) in money.

Two Romanian residents had been questioned as suspects, although officers haven’t disclosed additional particulars about their identities or particular roles. So-called “hitman-for-hire” web sites have often appeared on the darkish net, although legislation enforcement businesses say many finally develop into scams.
