Two migrants have been detained by a Cook dinner County choose after a federal investigation into gunrunning and narcotics trafficking in Chicago by the Venezuelan road gang Tren de Aragua (TdA).
In a detention petition, Illinois Assistant Legal professional Common Thomas Darman mentioned the case, led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, started in Could when authorities suspected the gang was transferring narcotics and firearms into the town.
As a part of the operation, an informant working for the ATF organized to buy “Tusi,” a road drug created by mixing methamphetamine with substances together with cocaine, ketamine, MDMA, and fentanyl, Darman mentioned.
On Could 14, the informant and an undercover ATF agent met two males and a girl within the parking zone of a McDonald’s at 6515 South Western Avenue, based on Darman. There, the trio allegedly bought the informant and agent almost 48 grams of Tusi and three loaded firearms: a 9mm pistol, a .45-caliber pistol, and a .40-caliber pistol. A Drug Enforcement Administration lab later decided the Tusi contained ketamine and MDMA.
Investigators recognized the lads as Alvaro Berrios Godoy, 26, and Oscar Puerta Gorrin, 23, who have been indicted by a Cook dinner County grand jury on July 29. However officers solely knew the girl as “Nicole.”
Darman mentioned Gorrin and “Nicole” returned to the McDonald’s final Thursday and bought one other 50 grams of Tusi to ATF brokers. They have been instantly arrested. Investigators subsequently recognized “Nicole” as 27-year-old Lilibeth Diaz Pirela. Godoy was arrested individually about two hours earlier than the McDonald’s assembly, police data present.
Police estimated the primary Tusi supply was price greater than $15,243 and the second over $16,500. Courtroom filings state the group bought the medicine to investigators for a fraction of their road worth.
Darman mentioned Godoy and Gorrin are Venezuelan residents and never authorized U.S. residents. Diaz’s residency standing was not instantly recognized.
Godoy is charged with gunrunning, armed violence, manufacture-delivery of methamphetamine, illegal sale of a firearm, and possession of a firearm with a defaced serial quantity. Gorrin and Pirela are charged with manufacture-delivery of methamphetamine.
Decide Deidre Dyer granted detention petitions for all three defendants, calling them public security threats and flight dangers.
